Gender-Inclusive Housing in Education Abroad Programming

Presentation Description: This presentation will review the MSU Office for Education Abroad’s previous housing policy, detail the impact it had on students, and review the process of creating and implementing a more gender-inclusive policy for faculty-led programs. Additionally, this presentation will explore feedback received from the campus community and our response as a task force.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define gender and understand the value of gender-inclusive housing on faculty-directed education abroad programs.
  • Identify goals, next steps, and easy mistakes to avoid when creating and implementing a gender-inclusive housing policy for education abroad.
  • Establish a realistic timeline for the development and implementation of a new housing policy.
