Terminating the SEVIS record of a student or scholar can destroy a life; the decision should be carefully considered based solely on legal considerations. This session will walk through termination requirements, causes, deadlines, and discretion. We will also examine a number of termination hypotheticals and encourage the audience to share their own experiences.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will learn the legal and practical effects of termination.
  • Attendees will review the SEVIS drop down menu and learn to interpret it.
  • Attendees will learn the deadlines for termination, which are mandatory, and which are discretionary.
