Halloween Special Spooktacular Session: Unmasking Identity Formation in Education Abroad

Join this interactive session to explore the topic of identity and better understand how to help students cultivate identities as global citizens. Together reflect on how identity can be salient when traveling abroad and how identities may shift after return. Expand awareness of social and projected identities and build vocabulary in articulating how those identities can help build more inclusive spaces anywhere you are in your world. By participating in this session you can improve your pre-departure and re-entry sessions by helping students navigate their own identity formation.

Learning Objectives:

  • During this session, participants will explore concepts of identity, social identity, projected identity, etc.
  • After the session, participants will be able to help students cultivate identity as global citizens in pre-departure and re-entry programming.
  • Participants will have gained new knowledge, skills and abilities in an effort to understand how social constructs of identity shape life experiences and how to create inclusive spaces.
